June 2024: Action & Contemplation
Solidarity with Palestine, restoring nature, and the question of church land
Every month, we round up events and opportunities from our Passionist partners and others who share similar interests/values — in ecology, social justice and meditation, particularly direct action as/when we hear about it. If you’re involved in any of these and would like your event to be featured in Passio, send us an email at hello@passiozine.com.
This month: June 2024
This weekend, 1st and 2nd June, are earmarked as days of action for Palestine, with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign organising demonstrations across the country. See here for a list of locations and ways to get involved.
On Tuesday 4th June, A Rocha is asking how church land can be used to help restore nature. If you’re an interested observer or bursting with suggestions, register for their free webinar via this link.
Has the church made any progress on animal welfare? Joyce D’Silva joins our Passionist Partners Green Christian for a free seminar on Wed 5th June, as part of their ‘LOAF’1 series (further resources on that here).
Authors and activists Hamza Hamouchene and Katie Sandwell will be discussing their 2013 book Dismantling Green Colonialism (and all that’s happened since!) at the London Mining Network’s Book Club, on Thursday 6th June. More details here.

Restore Nature Now: on Saturday 22nd June, our friends in Christian Climate Action are joining a mass demonstration in Central London, as well as an ecumenical church service, ‘Creation Cries Out’. Read more here, to take part in both.
Lastly, Operation Olive Branch have compiled a growing list of GoFundMe links and other fund requests where you can directly support Palestinians on the ground in Gaza. The Palestinian-led strategic boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, BDS, also shares regular up-to-date information on their actions.

“North Belfast is a community that has seen immense trauma over the past century — defined by huge political forces beyond its control. There, you’ll find Passionists picking up the pieces of past traumas, giving their lives to help a hurt community, while grappling with the surges of change and secularisation.”
